This draft policy protects the SignalDojo project identity while preserving every right granted by GPL-3.0-or-later.
The essential distinction
The GPL governs the software. This policy concerns only the SignalDojo name, icon, logo and the presentation of official project releases. Nothing here limits the right to copy, modify or redistribute the GPL-covered code.
Unofficial modified distributions
Unless the project maintainer grants permission, an unofficial modified build should:
- use a different primary product name, icon and logo;
- say clearly that it is unofficial and based on SignalDojo;
- identify significant changes and the party responsible for the build; and
- avoid suggesting project approval, sponsorship, support or compatibility testing.
For example, “ExampleLab Analyzer — based on SignalDojo” is a clear descriptive statement when presented without confusing branding.
Official builds
An “official” installer or release is one published and tested by the SignalDojo project maintainer through the project’s designated website or source-code release channels. Third parties remain free to build and distribute the software under the GPL, but should not describe those packages as official.
Descriptive and community use
You may refer truthfully to SignalDojo when discussing the project, linking to it, teaching with it, reporting compatibility or explaining that another work is based on it, provided the presentation is not misleading.
